Once upon a time in Henryville, Indiana, there lived a little boy who had to grow up faster than he should have.
At the tender age of six, his father passed away, and his mother had to work long hours at a tomato cannery to make ends meet. As a result, this little boy had to become a chef and caretaker for his siblings.
Talk about having to learn how to adult at such
a young age! Life hit him hard, and it didn't stop there.
When he was ten, he had to work as a farmhand to help support his family.
And if that wasn't enough, he dropped out of high school in
sixth grade! Yeah, you heard that right. He wasn't exactly a fan of school, and
he had to leave home early on.
But don't worry; this isn't some depressing story about a
boy who didn't make it in life. This is the story of Superhero , and boy
did he bounce back!
At sixteen, he started working as a painter of horse
carriages, but he was always looking for something more. So, he faked his age
and enlisted in the US Army. After being honorably discharged a year later, he
started working as a railway laborer and even studied law at a nearby
university. But then he got into a fight and ruined his legal career! Ouch,
that's gotta hurt.
But did he let that stop him? Nope, not at all.
He moved
back in with his mom and got a job selling life insurances. Unfortunately, he
got fired for not following orders, but that didn't stop him either. He
established a ferryboat company that became an instant success!
However, he later tried to cash in on his ferryboat business
to create a chemical lamp manufacturing company, only to find out that another
company was already selling electric lamps that were much better than his
company's lamps. Talk about bad timing!
But wait, there's more!
He moved on to work as a salesman
for a tire company, but once again, he lost his job when the company closed its
manufacturing plant. At the age of 40, he met the general manager of an oil
company who asked him to run a service station. And once again, fate didn't
work in his favor, as the station had to close down due to the Great
Depression.
But wait, The Superhero had a secret weapon – his
pan-fried chicken! He started operating the service station and began serving
chicken dishes and other simple meals for people stopping by the station. His
pan-fried chicken soon became a favorite with the people of the area and made
him famous in the region. He took out the station and started a proper
restaurant, and after a few years, he started to advertise his food. And to his
shock, an argument erupted out of the blue with a local competitor, which
resulted in a fatal shootout with one of his employees dying.
Four years later, he bought a motel next to his chicken restaurant,
hoping for better business. But it caught fire and burnt down to the ground,
along with his restaurant. It must have been devastating for him, but this
ambitious man wasn't one to give up. He rebuilt and ran a new motel with a
140-seat restaurant until World War II forced him to close it down again.
Now, you'd think that with so many setbacks, The Superhero would give up, right? Wrong!
He tried selling his recipe to other restaurants,
but his recipe was rejected 1009 times! That's more rejections than some of us
have had in our love lives! Finally, in 1952, he sold his secret recipe –
Kentucky Fried Chicken – for the first time to the operator of one of the
city's largest restaurants. It quickly became A CRAZE.
Yes ! you read it right , it was Kentucky Fried Chicken and the Superhero was none other than Colonel Sanders.
In his Eighties , he became A Billionaire!
And even after his death KFC continues to grow & the Legacy just grows.
